horrible service, constant throttling. NO customer service and when you get them they blame Bell. Watch out for their plans that try to get you to sign up but have a 1GB bandwidth limit so that they can bill you hundreds of dollars in overage (check redflagdeals.ca for these complaints).

Iíll sum up briefly my experience here in Montreal with AEI. I signed up for their Combo10 package. Initially they thought they were able to port my old line but called to tell me the day before installation that the company responsible for porting could not. So, I had to change my number. After installation (outsourced to Bell), I had difficulties staying connected and maintaining a steady downstream of data. It took 4 visits from Bell and about two weeks of troubleshooting before realizing the internal old house line needed to be changed and I needed to be moved to a less populated node. For a discount ISP, the customer service in Montreal was excellent. They listened to concerns and worked hard to resolve them with a personal touch you canít get from the media giants. Some patience was required in troubleshooting exactly where the problem is, but they will work hard to resolve the issue and one feels they value their customer base. Since resolving the problem, Iíve had steady, uninterrupted service that performs as advertised. Unlimited downloads and Canadian VOIP long distance for 50 bucks a month. Canít go wrong!

I have been an AEI customer for 10 years. I remember they had horrible tech support back when I originally go hooked up and took a month to resolve issues. I recently requested a free update to a new higher speed package that included a free dryloop. What a nightmare! They left me without internet service for two weeks to switch from a dry loop to a wet loop (same physical line). I have problems and they made several schedule appointments (between 1pm-9pm) where the technician never showed. They were not interested in my complaint and hung-up when I tried to cancel the service. These people are horrible and my issues are still not resolved.

Switched to AEI from Ebox. What a difference! After having to deal with horrendous service due to rainfall of random problems on Ebox, using same equipment with AEI and in all the years never actually had to call AEI. Never spoke with anyone at AEI since service was connected. Just don't need any support - everything simply works. I am an IT pro with 25+ years of experience and this is exactly what I need: no distraction and no irritants.

Been with AEI for several years now. Had some initial connection problems, but they were pretty minor, and no worse than my previous provider, Rogers cable. I can't remember the last time I had an issue. Its been very reliable for at least the last two years. I am now using it for VoIP.ms telephone in place of Bell.

Customer since 2000. Always had good service not a lot of downtime. No throttle but not always full speed. Unlimited upload and download makes it wonderful...

Customer service personnel is ok. There's a short waiting time to speak to a representative and they have good telephone manners. However, I had HORRIBLE connection speeds with them (hovering around 3.0 - 3.5 Mpbs most of the time and often dropping to less than 1Mbps) - for a 5Mbps DSL service. I've tweaked my router settings with an expert from the router company without any improvement. As soon as I've switched to another internet provider (similar 5Mbps DSL) the connection speed improved (above 4 Mpbs all the time, no drops yet after 2 weeks - knock on wood :) ). Before switching to AEI I was with Acanac DSL and had consistent connection speed above 4.5Mbps. Based on my experience with AEI I'd advise you to stay away from AEI. Not sure whether they use some band limitation (they say they're not using any) but they kept blaming my router/pc (which worked fine before using their service and works fine after switching to another provider). If you watch videos or play games online this is very frustrating.

I've switched from Acanac DSl 5Mbps to AEI's DSL 5Mpbs. With Acanac I had usually above 4.5Mbps. With AEI the speed was more like 3.5Mbps and OFTEN fell to 1.5 Mbps and below this. I've reset the wireless modem and used the D-link's tech support to fine tune the router's settings. I've had the same speed problems afterwards. Their tech support said the problem is at my end (no long waiting time in queue to speak to a rep though). I will cancel my service with them and I'd suggest you to consider other options.

No downtime, good phone customer service, downloading 100GB a month, no complaints. Also very low latency for games (40-60ms) even while downloading and streaming.

I live in Ottawa center. I have been with Synapse (Taken over by AEI) since before the internet was available. I was on a DOS BBS (ancient technology)with Synapse. I have always found their tech support to be excellent. I have moved once with only a couple of days with no access. No throttling, good value, miss the Usenet News though.

I have had them for 3 years now with never a single problem. Customer service has been helpful, though I have never had a real thorny issue for them and I am pretty tech-savvy myself. Still given the price and no caps, a far better service than Bell or Videotron is offering.

I had a terrible experience with these guys. I found that they were fairly nice on the phone when I was inquiring about their service, but since then pretty miserable to deal with. All was topped off when my service stopped working last week, with no explanation, and the company could provide no solution to fix it other than continuously sending out Bell, who refuse to get involved. I finally gave up and cancelled my account, and asked for a refund for this month's service as it has been down for over a week with no solution to be found, and I was laughed at. I've attempted to escalate with a manager, but all I get is a runaround.

I very strongly recommend that you STAY AWAY from AEI. Worst customer service experience of my life.

Claim to offer Usenet service on Canadianisp, their website, and after confirming with sales rep over the phone when placed order.

Once service was activated, couldn't use Usenet server. Called tech support and they said it's not offered any more. Contacted same sales rep as before and they offered to cancel my service but could only do immediately, leaving me without service until I could switch providers.

Confrontational sales rep on phone needlessly escalated situation.

Customer service sucks: they could not get me reconnected for three weeks when I moved, and now they cut my service in error and make me wait almost 2 weeks to reconnect. And, no, I will not get a credit because their records show I had uninterrupted service.
